As guardians, we decide who they get to see, where they get to go, when they go to the bathroom, what they get to play with, what they eat, etc. If we can add a bit of excitement to their day, why wouldn’t we? Also, to have a happy dog we need to meet their needs. If we don’t find outlets for our dogs to chew, sniff, chase, etc they will find a way to do it on their own that might not be in line with what we would like them to do.
